Pap smear (cytology) for women
Due to the introduction of the new scheme, we would like to remind you that a Pap smear can be performed from the age of 25 to 64 once every three years. But once a year if if you have one of the risk factors: HIV infection, taking immunosuppressive medications (immune suppressants) or high-risk HPV infection.
Hence currently there are available two test schemes:
- Traditional - classic Pap smear (once every 3 years)
- New - HPV DNA or RNA detection with genotyping, detecting high-risk (HR) genotypes associated with the development of cervical cancer; when the HPV HR test result is positive, an additional liquid-based cytology (LBC) is performed from the same collected material. And this test is performed every 5 years.
